We are being lied to about the dropping of the heavy rail link to Auckland Airport.

The NZTA changes its mind and decides to scrap the plan after a report from Auckland Transport tells NZTA that the plan would be poor value for money.

AT meets behind closed doors today (Monday) to discuss its report.

The sitting Waitemata councillor Mike Lee criticises the NZTA decision and plans to remove the Neilson St, Onehunga, over bridge which protects the route for rail.

Mike Lee is chairman of Auckland Council Infrastructure.

He heads a steering group with Kiwirail considering rapid transit options to the airport.

He is on the board of Auckland Transport which told NZTA rail was not value for money.

For heavens sake! The man is in an instrumental position to ensure heavy rail is the right option for the airport but he seems to be claiming he is powerless to stop NZTA changing its mind.

It was his AT that changed the NZTA’s mind.

His steering group should be pressuring the NZTA to stay on track with rail.

His Council Infrastructure committee should be doing the same.

There is only one of two conclusions to be reached here.

One is that he is, for whatever reason, completely powerless despite being on all the key organisations that could keep NZTA on course.

Or Cr Lee is once again being duplicitous, saying one thing, doing another while all the time trying to milk the issue for his own benefit.

Either way, we don’t need this guy and his tricky footwork as he does one thing and tells us another thing.
